Hands-on-Healing in Healthcare

A growing body of research provides evidence that hands-on-healing is effective in reducing pain, depression, and anxiety, and that it speeds healing, and boosts the immune system.

The use of hands-on methods including Reiki, Healing Touch, and Therapeutic Touch are rapidly growing in hospitals and clinics around the world. They are being used in surgical units to speed healing, decrease the amount of needed pain medication, and decrease the length of stay in the hospital. Cancer units are using hands-on-healing to decrease the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Maternity wards have used hands-on-healing to ease the pain of childbirth.

In Colorado, Boulder Foothills Hospital, and Lutheran Medical Center offer hands-on-healing for their patients. Denver hospices including Namaste Comfort Care and Hospice of Saint John use hands-on-healing to help decrease pain and anxiety with the dying patient as well as the family members.

LifeSpark Cancer Resources

LifeSpark matches volunteer Healing Touch and Reiki providers with individuals with cancer for regularly scheduled healing sessions for up to six months. This program offers cancer patients weekly relief from the side-effects of cancer treatment while promoting peace and well-being. Those receiving this service as well as their matched volunteer energy therapy providers have expressed how deeply the program has touched their lives. The program also collects data as part of an ongoing research project.

If you have cancer and are interested in receiving this service, or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer Reiki or Healing Touch volunteer, call Sandy at 303-425-5670 or e-mail her at info@LifeSparkNow.org.
